Restored to Due Order

“Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” (John 12:31-32).

Calvin writes:

“The word judgment is taken as “reformation” by some and “condemnation” by others. I agree rather with the former, who expound it that the world must be restored to due order. For the Hebrew word mishpat which is translated as judgment means a well-ordered constitution…. Now we know that outside Christ there is nothing but confusion in the world. And although Christ had already begun to set up the kingdom of God, it was His death that was the true beginning of a properly-ordered state and the complete restoration of the world.”
