All Saints Day

*Today is All Saint’s Day. In the earliest years of the Christian faith, there were so many martyrs that friends, family, and fellow believers began to set aside certain days to honor them. In 607 the Roman emperor presented the beautiful Pantheon to the church. Boniface IV consecrated the building for the remembrance of all those who had suffered during the years of fierce imperial persecution—that great cloud of witnesses. Originally celebrated on May 1, a festival of remembrance for those heroes of the faith was eventually moved to November 1 by Gregory IV.” – Grant
